Victoria records more than 500 new COVID-19 cases

Victoria has experienced its worst day of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 532 new virus cases overnight.

The state’s COVID-19 tally now sits at 8696 infections.

Six Victorians have also died of COVID-19 overnight, taking the state’s death toll to 77.

The deaths include three women in their 90s, 80s and 70s and three men in their 80s, 70s and 50s. Five of the deaths were connected to aged care outbreaks.

There are 245 Victorians in hospital, including 44  receiving intensive care.
