The premier has confirmed details of the government’s handling of the worst-affected facilities.

The federal government has taken over management of St Basils, Mr Andrews confirmed.

“There’s still significant work that needs to be done there, and is being done,” he said.

Victoria Health’s Eastern Health department has taken over the management of Kirk Bay, which the premier described as “stable”.

Epping Gardens is being run by Austin Health, where two seriously ill residents were rushed to Emergency last night.

“It’s a big team, it’s an impressive team in terms of their commitment and their absolute resolve to get in and get the job done,” Mr Andrews said.

“And to all of those nurses and others who are doing that important work, I thank you deeply.

“It’s very challenging – very, very confronting, often – and they’re doing an amazing job.”
