Shoppers are racing to get their hands on a loaf of Golden Crumpet Toast after the treat disappeared from supermarket shelves more than 10 years ago.

Australian iconic brand Tip Top has quietly launched a range of breakfast toast for just $5 a loaf in the bread aisle of supermarkets across the country.

Foodies can expect ‘crunch on the outside, soft and spongy in the middle’ and it’s best served with butter and honey, or your own choice of toppings.

Earlier this week, the brand teased its customers on social media about a ‘big’ surprise after hinting a new item was set to hit shelves.

‘We have something big and toasty coming! Keep an eye out at your local supermarket to find out what Mr Golden has planned,’ the brand said on Facebook.

Many customers admitted they ‘will go nuts if it’s Crumpet Toast’, while others managed to get their hands on the toast after spotting them in the bread aisle at IGA and Coles.

‘Oh my God, I found it. May have brought all five packets #sorrynotsorry,’ one mother said,’ while another added: ‘Crumpet Toast is coming back. What a time to be alive.’

While one woman said: ‘The best thing to come out of coronavirus isolation. Thank you Golden… please never take Crumpet Toast away. I found it just now, mum is making a mad dash to the supermarket to try her luck!’

Last year, the brand pulled an April Fool's joke on its customers after sharing a picture on Facebook, with the captions: 'We're so excited to announce the re-launch of Crumpet Toast!' It later admitted it 'April Fool's! Crumpet Toast isn't coming back just yet'

According the shoppers, Crumpet Toast is a discontinued stock, which was sold in stores more than 10 years ago.

Last year, the brand pulled an April Fool’s joke on its customers after sharing a picture on Facebook, with the captions: ‘We’re so excited to announce the re-launch of Crumpet Toast! You can grab yourself a fresh loaf from next week.’

The post quickly attracted hundreds of comments, including ‘If this isn’t real, April is ruined’, ‘This honestly needs to be a thing… Seriously!’ and ‘I’ve missed this stuff’.

The brand responded hours later: ‘April Fools! Did we trick you? Although Crumpet Toast isn’t coming back just yet we loved seeing all your enthusiasm for this Golden treasure from the past.’

One customer replied: ‘Meanest April’s fools joke ever crumpet toast was the best’, while another said: ‘Devastating! Bring back crumpet toast,’ and one said: ‘Golden Crumpet broke my heart.’

Disabled people are still vulnerable, even as COVID-19 normalizes their ‘special’ needs NewsColony Perhaps it’s appropriate that public notices of the COVID-19 crisis began as an ableist cruelty. Health officials assured the nation that only the elderly and those with chronic health conditions would be seriously affected; most Americans (i.e., the normal people) would have only mild symptoms and be fine. x A friendly reminder: people who will be high-risk patients if we get coronavirus can hear you when you reassure everyone we’re the only ones who might die. â€Â” Alexandra Brodsky (@azbrodsky) February 29, 2020 Soon after the announcement of those assurances, the likelihood of high-risk people surviving was further limited by the people more likely to be fine. Shopping frenzies cleared stores of essential supplies needed everyday by many disabled people, like thermometers, hand wipes, masks, and IV infusion supplies. Accustomed to their needs ...
