Stranger washes, irons and returns a lost jumper to Melbourne park
A kind stranger has washed, ironed and returned a lost jumper to a Melbourne park as the city prepares to say goodbye to its harsh lockdown restrictions.
One woman discovered the heartwarming gesture while walking through Princes Park, north of Melbourne’s CBD, on Monday night.
The walker shared an image of the grey XL jumper, which was neatly folded and sealed in a plastic sleeve with a handwritten note, to social media.
‘Saw this on my walk around Princes Park tonight – what a kind soul,’ she wrote.

The note explained the jumper had been lost at Princes Park (pictured above) last week and was returned on Monday. Social media users praised the ‘very kind and thoughtful’ gesture
The jumper was stapled inside the clear plastic packaging to avoid being dampened by the grass and left in a section of the park where the owner had forgotten it.
A piece of blue lined paper was also included with a handwritten explanation.
‘To the person who lost this top here last week,’ the note read.
‘Here it is washed and ironed.’
It was signed off by a mysterious ‘J’ and dated October 26, 2020.
Commenters on Facebook were quick to praise the ‘very kind and thoughtful’ gesture.
‘I saw this when I was running tonight! How lovely are people out there,’ one woman wrote.
‘What a kind, caring thing to do for a complete stranger with nothing expected in return,’ said another.
Other users said the gesture was even more meaningful after Melbourne’s health crisis.
‘Very thoughtful, especially during a COVID pandemic,’ one commenter wrote.

Melburnians (pictured above in Princes Park) have struggled through 111 days of forced isolation but restrictions will begin easing from 11.59pm on Tuesday
‘What an inspiring person… your actions help others see how much better our community can be when people show kind leadership,’ another user added.
Melburnians have suffered through 111 days of forced isolation, since July 8, after a deadly second wave of the coronavirus.
The four essential reasons to leave home will finally be scrapped at 11.59pm on Tuesday and retail and hospitality venues will be permitted to re-open.
Residents can also gather outside with up to 10 people and there will no longer be any limit on the number of households that can come together at once.
From Wednesday two adults and dependent children or relatives will be able to visit or be visited by one other household per day.
Residents must keep a log book of who has visited in case someone tests positive and officials need to trace their contacts.
Restrictions will be further eased on November 8 along with the 25km travel limit.
