Labor MP Chris Hayes, 65, clutches his heart and collapses while speaking in parliament
Labor MP Chris Hayes clutched his heart and collapsed while speaking in parliament on Thursday.
The 65-year-old member for Fowler in Sydney’s south west was rushed to hospital after the dramatic episode in the Federation Chamber – a side chamber of parliament – at 12pm.
Witnesses say he was speaking about being abused as a child when he clutched his chest and called for help.

He then fell into his chair as Labor MPs Mike Freelander and Tanya Plibersek rushed to help him, witnesses said.
Dr Freelander, a former paediatrician, is said to have given first aid before paramedics arrived.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese said he suffered a ‘sudden medical event’ but is now stable in hospital and will stay overnight for tests with his wife by his side.
‘He recovered pretty quickly,’ Mr Albanese said.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison described Mr Hayes as ‘very good bloke’ and sent his ‘prayers’ to his wife and children.
