NSW has announced that anyone travelling into the state from Victorian hotspots could be fined $11,000 or jailed.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard will sign a public health order later today prohibiting anyone from 10 postcodes in the state from entering NSW.

“Victorians living in virus hotspots have to take the Victorian and NSW health orders seriously and should be very aware that NSW will impose penalties if they seek to leave hotspot suburbs to enter NSW,” Mr Hazzard said.

“The message to NSW residents is don’t go to Victorian hotspots, just don’t go,” he added.

There have been 14 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. All of these are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

There is no evidence of community transmission, Mr Hazzard said today.

One person in NSW is being treated for COVID-19 in an intensive care unit, however, 97 per cent of people are being treated in “out of hospital care”, which means being looked after at home.

Mr Hazzard also warned young people to continue to take COVID-19 seriously.

He said about 40 per cent of cases in NSW are in people aged 18-29 and told this age group that it is not “invisible and immortal”.

“Take it seriously,” he said.

Restrictions ease in NSW today

In NSW today a number of restrictions will ease across the state, including changes to the number of people allowed in cafes, restaurants and bars and community sport resuming for kids and adults.

Bookings are restricted to 20 people at food and drink venues, but Mr Hazzard warned owners about doing the wrong thing.

“Whilst we love going to our restaurants and cafes some of the proprietors haven’t quite learnt all the needs of keeping us all safe,” Mr Hazzard said.

“For example, there shouldn’t be anything common on a table, so pepper and salt shakers that are very frequently seen in restaurants, they shouldn’t be there.

“The table should be disinfected between people being there, the chairs should be disinfected.”

From today, conference and function centres reopen without a cap on the number of people attending, so long as the four-square-metre rule is adhered to.

Up to 10,000 people can attend events at stadiums in NSW.

“How good is that,” Mr Hazzard said.

Racecourses can also have up to 25 per cent of people, or 10,000 attendees, whichever is lower.
