Aaron Hernandez’s prison ‘lover’ says the murderer was his ‘right hand man’

A former inmate who claims he was Aaron Hernandez’s prison lover has said that the former football star was his ‘right hand man’ and that they ‘did everything together’. 

Kyle Kennedy, who has previously claimed he was Hernandez’s prison boyfriend, is speaking out for the first time about his relationship with the convicted murderer in a TV interview. 

Kennedy describes Hernandez as ‘the most [loyal] person I’ve ever met’, claiming that they would sell and do drugs together throughout their time in prison and that the former New England Patriots tight end admitted four murders to him. 

‘Aaron killed himself, you know that was my right-hand man. We used to do everything together,’ Kennedy states, in an interview conducted while he was still in jail.

The full interview will be aired as part of an upcoming Reelz special, Aaron Hernandez: Jailhouse Lover Tells All, on July 5. 

According to People, Kennedy says that the pair would  ‘lock in to either cook food or smoke, get high, listen to music, just chill when we didn’t want to be around other people’.

‘We used to write letters back and forth to each other all day,’ he claims. 

‘We sold drugs every day, we did drugs every day.’

Hernandez was convicted of one killing in 2015 over the death of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee. 

He was already serving a life sentence for this murder in the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center when he was acquitted of two others in 2017. 

Prosecutors had alleged Hernandez shot Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012 after a confrontation at a nightclub. 

Despite being acquitted, he took his own life five days later in prison aged 27 in April 2017.    

‘You could never really tell by looking at him by he was obviously worried, he was concerned of what the outcome was because his lawyers were telling him “if you beat these two cases, you’re going to flip the other one you’re going home”,’ Kennedy says in the new TV interview.

‘That was set in his head and he kept saying “we can speak this into existence, we can make this happen”. He had himself convinced he was going to beat those two murders even though he told me he was guilty.’

Kennedy, a former armed robber who was among the last to see Hernandez alive, claims that the football star told him that he was guilty of the deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012. 

‘It was an argument, he felt disrespected by him,’ Kennedy claims. 

‘He said they waited down the street by a parking garage for three or four hours, he knew what kind of car they were in. 

‘He’d already told me he’d seen them go by, he pulled up next to them. He only meant to kill the one kid in the passenger seat. 

‘He said he shot him in his head and he saw brains blow all over his friend. He thought it was funny.’

Kennedy also claims that his sexual relationship with Hernandez began soon after he came to the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts. 

‘[We had sex] once or twice a week, whenever there was a good opportunity,’ he says in the interview. 

Super Bowl-winning Hernandez spent three years with the New England Patriots before his 2013 arrest on the first of three homicide charges. 

The Patriots terminated his $40 million contract, and he never returned to the NFL. 

His murder conviction was reinstated in March 2019 in a sweeping ruling from Massachusetts’ highest court that does away with the legal principle that made the former NFL star innocent in the eyes of the law after he killed himself in prison. 

Doctors later found the 27-year-old Hernandez had advanced CTE on a level not previously seen in someone that young.
