Qantas lounges reopen ahead of school holidays

As travel and venue restrictions continue to ease, Qantas has announced it will reopen its domestic airport lounges across Australia from tomorrow.

The first stage of openings will see the more exclusive Qantas Business Lounges open their doors to all travellers – including Qantas Club members and gold-level frequent flyers.

Qantas Chief Customer Officer, Stephanie Tully, said the company was confident in its decision and will continue to assess the situation.

“This is a new world for everyone as we introduce and evolve our services to the new travel climate, but we’re very confident that we can make this work well for our people and our customers,” Ms Tully said.

“Some initiatives will become the norm while others such as capacity restrictions will ease as time goes on.”

While patrons won’t be treated to the company’s signature buffet service, the organisation has not ruled out its return when restrictions ease in the future.

Queensland and Victoria lounges are scheduled for progressive reopening from July 10 as current gathering restrictions are eased.

The announcement comes just in time for the first weekend of the mid-year school holidays.

Just last week the company announced it would need to cut 6,000 jobs and keep 15,000 stood down in bid to survive the coronavirus downturn.

It is the first time that a vaccine candidate for Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has been authorised for use for the military of any nation. CanSino said on Monday that the candidate had been through two phases of clinical trials, which indicated it was safe and there was “relatively high” immune response to the antigen. The candidate is yet to start
