Western Australia FINALLY reveals the date the state will open to the rest of the country

Western Australia will allow travellers from New South Wales and Victoria to enter the state without the need for quarantine from December 8.

Premier Mark McGowan announced the relaxed border restrictions on Tuesday, after Victoria went 28 days without a community case of coronavirus last week.

Victoria and NSW will be categorised as ‘very low risk’ under WA’s controlled borders from December 8, joining the ACT, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania.

South Australia will be the only state locked out of WA. They will be categorised as ‘medium risk’ until at least December 11.

‘I look forward to Western Australians being able to see friends and family from NSW and Victoria under our controlled border regime,’ Mr McGowan said on Tuesday.

‘My parents live in NSW so personally, for me, it is a relief to know that my parents are now safer at their home and hopefully I may be able to see them sometime in the future.’

The premier admitted it had been a ‘long wait’ after the state cut itself off from the rest of the country back in March.

‘As a country I am so relieved we have gotten to this point,’ he said.

‘It is a credit to all Australians that we are nearly at the point of eliminating the virus in the community.’

Mr McGowan said he would not hesitate to reinstate the hard border if there are further coronavirus outbreaks on the east coast.

Disabled people are still vulnerable, even as COVID-19 normalizes their ‘special’ needs NewsColony Perhaps it’s appropriate that public notices of the COVID-19 crisis began as an ableist cruelty. Health officials assured the nation that only the elderly and those with chronic health conditions would be seriously affected; most Americans (i.e., the normal people) would have only mild symptoms and be fine. x A friendly reminder: people who will be high-risk patients if we get coronavirus can hear you when you reassure everyone we’re the only ones who might die. â€Â” Alexandra Brodsky (@azbrodsky) February 29, 2020 Soon after the announcement of those assurances, the likelihood of high-risk people surviving was further limited by the people more likely to be fine. Shopping frenzies cleared stores of essential supplies needed everyday by many disabled people, like thermometers, hand wipes, masks, and IV infusion supplies. Accustomed to their needs ...
