Tragedy as swimmer is ‘killed in shark attack’ at popular Western Australia beach
A man has tragically been killed in a shark attack at a popular beach in Western Australia.
The swimmer was attacked on Cable Beach in Broome, on the northwest coast of Western Australia, at about 8.45am on Sunday morning.
WA Police said the man was recovered from the water and was treated by local police officers before paramedics from St John Ambulance arrived.
It is understood the swimmer was attacked north of the Cable Beach rocks and lost his hand in the attack, The West Australian reported.

The man was also bitten on his upper thigh.
Police could not provide more details and said further information would be provided as it became available.
Cable Beach has been closed to the public.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development was also notified of the incident.
The DPIRD said it was investigating and working with local authorities to coordinate responses.
‘Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA,’ a DPIRD statement said.
‘Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.’
Beachgoers were urged to report any shark sightings to the Water Police.
