A plant enthusiast has been charged after stealing 45 bonsai trees worth $30,000 from his neighbours in Sydney’s south west.

Multiple residents in Fairfield complained to police that their plants had been stolen from their homes.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command launched an investigation and attended a home on Prospect Road in Canley Vale about 2.50pm Friday.

They found 45 bonsai plants in the backyard, with an estimated value of $30,000.

A 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Fairfield police station.

He was charged with recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime and goods suspected of being stolen on or in a premises.

Police are now working to give the plants back to their rightful owners.

The man was granted bail and is due to appear in Fairfield Local Court on January 15, 2021.
