A MILLIONAIRE repeat speeder claimed a long ban would wreck his son’s footie dream.

Philip Davies, 50, told a court he had to drive the teen to Premier League Burnley for matches.

The insurance broker faced a six-month ban after racking up 13 penalty points.

He argued his son, 13, was not able to make a three-hour round bus trip and may lose his academy contract.

JPs agreed it would cause exceptional hardship and let him off with a six-week ban.

Davies was caught on camera twice in two weeks last June driving his Range Rover Vogue at 39mph and 37mph in a 30mph limit on the A56 in Stretford, Gtr Manchester.

He already had 13 points on his licence, with six due to expire around that time.

Thomas Sherrington, defending, told Manchester magistrates: “His youngest son is a very talented footballer.

“You must understand the potential opportunity this child has.

“Not everybody gets the chance to play football professionally.

“If this arrangement is stopped, his son cannot fulfil his dream.”

Davies, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, admitted speeding.

As well as the ban, he was fined £1,500 and given another six points, bringing his total to 13 again.

He told the court: “I apologise for the indiscretions.”
