HARVEY Weinstein’s legal team are working to get the convicted predator into a softer prison – so he can avoid New York’s infamous Rikers Island.

After being found guilty of two cases of rape and sexual assault on February 24, Weinstein was brought to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, where he has remained for over a week.

Now the Sun has learned that his is working to further avoiding the notorious jail complex in New York City after he is sentenced on March 11.

“He wants something like Anthony Weiner had,” a source told The Sun, referring to the detention center when the disgraced politician spent his time behind bars.

If Weinstein gets discharged from the hospital, he could end up in a protective unit at Rikers – before being moved to a New York state prison.

But avoiding that scenario is crucial to the convicted rapist, with an ideal prison possibly lying in the Federal Medical Center Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts upon sentencing.

The jail is classed as a minimum security facility that employs specialists in cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, surgery, neurology and pulmonology.

His main goal is to avoid any contact with the general population said the source, who added this is why an infirmary and in-house medical facility are so crucial to Harvey and his team.

After receiving his guilty verdict, Weinstein’s lawyers said he was admitted to the downtown NYC hospital for high blood pressure and heart palpitations.

The disgraced producer also wants the prison to be close to New York and have a strong Jewish base.

However, the source could not explain why Harvey wanted the latter as he was not a particularly religious man before his arrest.

Weinstein is reportedly getting 24/7 protection at the hospital from the Department of Corrections’ Emergency Service Unit.

On Saturday, the convicted rapist was spotted lounging at the hospital, according to pictures obtained by WPIX11.

A source told the news outlet Weinstein has been “free to roam” around and hasn’t been handcuffed during his hospital stay.

He’s said to be “walking with the aid of a wheelchair,” and had been “holding on to its handles to go to the TV room, using it as a walker.”

Weinstein will be sentenced on March 11 and faces up to 29 years in prison.
