US military aircraft forced into emergency landing

Preliminary reports indicate a US military aircraft has been forced to make an emergency landing in a farm field after clipping another aircraft in California.

Eyewitness reports say they saw the plane coming down in a field in Thermal, 40 kilometres south east of Palm Springs in California.

The local Naval base alerted followers on social media that it was responding to reports of a downed military helicopter.

“We were alerted to the fact that there is a report of a downed military aircraft in the vicinity of the Salton Sea,” Naval Air Facility El Centro reported on social media.

“We are coordinating with the FAA, Imperial County Agencies, and CHP to determine the details. We are aware that military helicopters flying in the area are assisting at the moment.

“This will be the only source for official information regarding the event.”

Eyewitnesses report seeing multiple people ejecting from the aircraft, their parachutes visible in the sky.
