Trump and Biden in testy early exchange
Donald Trump has defended his decision to nominate Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court after the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
He argued that he was right to nominate her despite the unprecedented rush to appoint her before the election.
“We have a phenomenal nominee, respected by all. Top, top academic. Good in every way. Good in every way,” Mr Trump said.
“We won the election. Elections have consequences. We have the Senate. We have the White House.”
Joe Biden said the American people deserved to have a say in the Supreme Court nomination.
“They’re not going to get that chance now, because we’re in the middle of an election already,” Mr Biden said.
“An election has already started. Tens of thousands of people have already voted.”
Mr Biden said Mr Trump is fighting to get rid of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and if Ms Barrett is on the court, it will be struck down.
