A Queensland woman has been dragged into bushland and sexually assaulted while out for a morning walk.

‘She was dragged into the bushland just off the walkway and sexually assaulted,’ Senior Sergeant Scot Warrick told reporters.

‘While not elderly, she is a vulnerable person of some age.’

The woman called triple-zero after the assault.

She suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

The man is described as having a large build.

‘This is possibly an opportunistic (attack),’ Snr Sgt Warrick said.

‘We are taking this extremely seriously.’

A crime scene has been set up at scene.
