Northern Beaches band Nothing Too Serious is threatened over COVID-19 cluster by locals on Facebook
Cover band ‘Nothing Too Serious’ have become the target of online abuse after their drummer tested positive to coronavirus following a gig at Avalon RSL Club – as the Northern Beaches cluster climbs to 38.
The drummer, a Frenchs Forest man in his 60s, likely contracted the virus during the performance at the RSL club on December 11. There are 15 infections now connected to the venue.
The man then performed at the Penrith RSL on December 13 and at the Kirribilli Club on December 14 before NSW Health issued an urgent alert for the Northern Beaches on December 16 – at which point he got tested and went into self-isolation.
Frustrated Northern Beaches locals have now wrongly blamed the drummer for spreading the virus across Sydney, directing their hate towards Nothing Too Serious band on Facebook.

A Facebook event page for Nothing Too Serious’ gig at Avalon RSL on December 11 is now riddled with hate comments.
‘HOW DARE YOU!!!!! BECAUSE OF YOU COVIDIOTS, I CAN’T FLY TO SYDNEY TO SEE ME SISTER WHO IS FIGHTING CANCER. I HOPE KARMA GETS YOU!!!!!!!’ one comment read.
Another person said: ‘You’re completely idiotic boomers that like most boomers ruin everything for everyone else. Congrats feel proud of yourselves.’
The hate messages continued on Nothing Too Serious’ Facebook page, where band’s recent posts have been targeted by online trolls.
‘Irresponsible idiots strike again! Back to your cave dopeheads,’ one man wrote.
Meanwhile, a woman wrote: ‘It’s not the ‘luck of the draw’ if you don’t isolate after having a COVID test. It’s ignorance and selfishness.’

One woman asked the band to clarify if the drummer failed to self-isolate after being tested, prompting the band to say the information is ‘incorrect’
‘These Superspreaders make Donald Trump look like an amateur, as they criss-crossed Sydney spreading this highly contagious and for some fatal disease,’ another man wrote.
One woman said: ‘My elderly mother will be ALONE for Christmas Day as she attended the club you played at.
‘I have read that the drummer of the band had a COVID test but didn’t isolate until he received the results. He went about his business as normal. The same as the married couple did. This is why everyone is angry. Can the band clarify this information?’
The Nothing Too Serious Facebook page replied to the comment, clarifying that the the drummer had done nothing wrong.
‘Thank you for the question but it’s another incorrect media report. Once tested he isolated and has been so ever since,’ the band replied.
NSW Member for Pittwater Rob Stokes defended Nothing Too Serious, highlighting the band has done many charity gigs and ‘deserve our thanks, not abuse’.
‘The band members are not the cause of the COVID-19 outbreak. They are victims of the virus, just like the rest of us,’ Mr Stokes said.
‘So please, let’s recognise that the band has done nothing wrong, and that any suggestions to the contrary are simply untrue.’

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian (right) said the new outbreak is from an international strain. Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant (left) said a mystery case introduced the strain to the Avalon RSL, which led to a new wave of infections
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard initially revealed the band’s name on Thursday but later admitted he should have kept it under wraps.
The latest COVID-19 outbreak is from an international strain of the disease, according to NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant believes a mystery case introduced the strain to the Avalon RSL Club last week, which lead to the new wave of infections.
‘Our working hypothesis is that someone at that RSL club was potentially the source of infection for a number of subsequent cases,’ Dr Chant said.
NSW recorded 21 new cases from Thursday to Friday, bringing the total number of active cases across the state to 41.
Of the 38 cases in the Avalon cluster, 15 cases are linked to the Avalon RSL, 23 cases are linked to the Avalon Bowling Club, and several cases attended both venues.
Another two new locally acquired cases reported in today’s numbers are of Northern Beaches residents whose infection source and potential links to other cases remain under investigation.
Lastly, one case was a NSW resident who was diagnosed in Queensland, which brings the total to 41.
