A mouse was just seconds into its freedom when it was snatched up by a hungry hawk. 

In a video that was recorded on Friday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a man is seen preparing to set the mouse free after catching it in a humane mousetrap. 

The mouse immediately took off running as the man and his six-year-old son watched. But within a matter of seconds, a hawk swooped in for a meal that wasn’t hard to catch. 

According to the man, the mouse had been ‘eating the food dropped by our 1-year-old daughter for weeks when we finally caught it with a live trap’. 

‘My 6-year-old son thought it was very cute and wanted to keep it as a pet. I explained to him that it would be happy outside. I had nothing but goodwill for the little guy and I was totally oblivious to any birds of prey nearby,’ the man said. 

He said he was in the process of turning his video off when the mouse was caught by the hawk. 

‘When I returned to the house my son was weeping and I had to explain to him that the hawk needs to eat too. He told me that when he grew up he would kill all the birds and that bird was a dumb*ss bird.’
