Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Fan Edit Sees Baraka Eat Joker’s Brain

Thanks to one fan’s clever editing, Mortal Kombat 11’s Baraka has discovered his new favorite food: the Joker’s brain. Developer NetherRealm just released the Mortal Kombat: Aftermath DLC, which features a post-game story campaign for the first time in franchise history. A wealth of additional content has also been added, such as the return of Friendship finishers, which were previously discontinued in 2011’s Mortal Kombat reboot title.

First introduced in Mortal Kombat II as a tongue-in-cheek response to the controversy surrounding the first game’s trademark Fatalities, these nonlethal alternatives have Kombatants end their bouts not by decapitating foes or tearing out their spines, but by dancing with or throwing birthday parties for them. Mortal Kombat 11’s take on this wacky series standby was unveiled unveiled in a special trailer about a week prior to Aftermath’s release, featuring the warriors of the Mortal Kombat universe flying kites and playing with toy trains. Of course, these goofy finishers might not always guarantee that both participants of the proceeding fight will walk out with all of their vital organs intact, and a certain Clown Prince of Crime discovered this the hard way in a prank gone wrong.

Reddit user kevinmcolon posted an edited video of Joker and Baraka’s Friendship and Fatality scenes to the Mortal Kombat subreddit earlier today, a short in which where Gotham City’s greatest villain offers the vicious Tarkatan warrior a suspiciously birthday cake primed to blow as a peace offering during a battle. However, a stray Batarang flies out of nowhere to bonk Joker on the head before the bomb can go off, allowing Baraka to shred the cake with his claws and enact revenge by going after the snack he really wanted: Joker’s juicy brain. Check out kevinmcolon’s Reddit post below in all its gory glory:

Despite a rocky start when it was released last April, Mortal Kombat 11 has earned heavy praise and the high sales figures to match thanks to its blend of traditional 2D fighting with top-quality storytelling, a formula NetherRealm has perfected over both subsequent series titles and the studio’s DC Comics-based Injustice series. At a Summer Games Fest event earlier this week, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon hinted that he and his team plan on continuing to make new installments of their well-regarded flagship series, in addition to possible side projects yet to be revealed.

In the meantime, kevninmcolon’s edited video is an amusing (and quite gruesome) display of creativity, editing skill, and love of the Mortal Kombat 11. It’s impressive how well different animation sequences can be fitted together so seamlessly, in addition to the interesting little details like how Batman‘s Batarang is seemingly the main catalyst for the Joker’s demise. Perhaps the Dark Knight caught sight of the clown’s prank on Baraka from afar and finally came up with a way to rid Gotham of him once and for all, all without necessarily breaking his moral code against killing.
